An individual who laced candy with sleeping medication and provided them to youngsters at a summer program in the area has pleaded guilty to sexual offenses against two boys who were between nine and ten.
The defendant was taken into custody after eight minors and a grown-up became sick at the facility in July.
The elderly man, from the Nottinghamshire area, admitted guilt to a series of 17 offences when he stood at the judicial center on Friday.
However, he refused to admit one particular crime he was accused of, which was involving a nine-year-old boy.
The defendant was kept in jail prior to a further hearing on late November.
'Sweet game'
The prosecutor, prosecuting, outlined Ruben's offending to the legal proceedings.
She explained his victims were under-privileged children who were attending a summer camp which he ran.
The defendant conducted a "sweet game" with the youngsters, the legal counsel said, in which he would go into the sleeping quarters when they were settling down and request they to eat sweets "as fast as possible".
She informed the proceedings the defendant had conducted this practice with the boys "repeatedly", and children had earlier experienced illness the next day.
She said the man had been successful in rationalizing this for many years as the children being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his stepson had concerns in summer 2025.
The legal representative continued: "This year his stepson had worries about what was going on, justifiably.
"They chose" to investigate in the defendant's belongings."
Mrs Prior KC said objects including lubricant, Vaseline and syringes were found, and his stepchild alerted the police about his suspicions.
She stated Ruben went on to engage in the "sweet game" with six youngsters that night - Saturday 26 July - and they were everyone unwell the next day.
"Authorities" had not arrived by that time," she added.
The regulatory agency, the police conduct office, previously told that it was reviewing Leicestershire Police's handling of the incident.
The prosecutor stated the children were unable to walk properly due to being ill, so the stepson contacted the law enforcement once more.
She stated Ruben then played the "sweet game" in a room of five youngsters.
